Millions of older Americans are targeted as victims of scams and identity theft each year at a cost estimated to be $2.9 billion and this figure is undoubtedly smaller than the actual figure as older scam victims are less likely to report being a victim of a scam.
 
Attorney Steven J.J. Weisman, Senior Lecturer at Bentley University and Of Counsel to Margolis & Bloom, discusses some common scams that seniors can fall prey to, why seniors are more likely to be targeted, and ways to combat the growing problem.

If you need MassHealth coverage of your long-term care, you can keep your house. But MassHealth will place a lien on it and expect to recover its costs from the house either upon its sale or from your estate.

While very few estates are subject to a federal estate tax, which only applies to those exceeding $11.2 million (in 2018), many more are subject to the Massachusetts estate tax for which the threshold is $1 million.
